Summer Fire Prevention/Brush Clearance Program

This program is designed to give 14- and 15-year old youth their first job experience. In July, participants receive two weeks of life skills and pre-employment training. On supervised teams, they spend the next six weeks removing overgrown brush from public hillsides. Youth should apply by May 1 - follow the instructions at the top of the page.

Glendale's Resource for Employment and Training (GREAT) Youth Employment Service

The GREAT Program is operated in partnership with the City of Glendale, and functions as an employment agency for youth. In the GREAT Program, youth with a proven work ethic and previous job experience are placed in career exploration jobs. Although they are on the payroll of the City of Glendale, their wages are paid entirely by the employer that hires them. GREAT operates year-round. To apply for GREAT,a

Glendale Youth Employment Partnership (GYEP)

In this program, supervised teams of youth ages 14 through 18 perform hillside brush removal on private properties for a fee. Youth can also be hired to help set up and clean up parties and events. Youth employees work after school, on weekends, and during the summer. Youth can apply year-round, but preference is given to youth who have completed the Summer Fire Prevention/Brush Clearance Program. See application instructions at the top of the page.

Students Taking Action to Reach for the Stars (STARS) Program

In this program, youth age 14-18 are placed in jobs in the community, such as at local hospitals, nonprofit organizations, libraries, schools and public agencies. Participants in this program are able to work more independently under the supervision of an adult. Students who have developed their job readiness skills in the Summer Fire Prevention/Brush Clearance Program or in GYEP can move into the STARS program.

This program operates both during the summer and during the school year. To apply, follow the instructions at the top of the page, and turn in your application by May 1 for the Summer program, and by October 1 for the school-year program.

Glendale Works

The Glendale Works Program is designed for low-income youth ages 19-21. The youth in this program are placed in jobs in local businesses. A grant pays half of their hourly wage, and their employer pays the other half of their hourly wage for 250 hours. This program operates year-round.
